My name is Sandra Vincent. I am an abstract artist living in Melbourne, Australia. I love to paint abstracts in acrylic paint and recently alcohol inks.
A bit of background about me...
Since the age of 11, I started painting classes, which then followed on into high school, specialising in Photography and Art. This led me to complete an Advanced Certificate of Art and Design, and then move into university, earning a Bachelor of Arts (Graphic Design).
Since finishing uni I worked as a Graphic Designer for several years, sold my paintings, printed my art onclothing, designed, run my own store, sold the clothing I made, and created greeting cards.
Being creative is very important to me, and I feel my happiest when I am regularly creative.

Q & A with Sandra
Describe your art style in one sentence?
My painting style is abstract, and I also design repeat patterns. I like to use colours to create a mood and evoke emotion in all my work. I like to my artwork to take its viewers on a journey.
Which colour best describes your personality and why?
Purple and Blue are the colours I am drawn mostly when I am creating. I love the mystical and emotive qualities that they bring to my paintings.
List three surprising fun fact about yourself.
1. I once owned a 1950's rockabilly store.
2. I've only just got back into painting after a 10 year hiatus.
3. I never felt that I was a strong drawer, but now I am drawing repeat patterns regularly.
What do you listen to when you’re creating?
I listen to chill radio on Apple Music or Maggie Rogers on repeat as I love her latest album "I heard it in a past life".
What are your design goals for the year to come?
I am currently designing repeat pattern collections, and will continue to build my portfolio doing this. In regards to my abstract paintings, I am going to be exhibiting more and increasing my skills by painting as much as I can.
What influences or inspires your work?
Instagram is amazing for seeing/discovering a wide range of artists from around the world, and keeping up to date with what they are doing. I am very inspired by Australian abstract artists and their successes, it helps encourage and push me to keep creating new heights. I also am inspired by nature, the beach, weather, textures and colours in everyday life. People and emotions play a big part in what I create. My passion has been re-fueled and my determination to succeed in it inspires me everyday to keep pushing.
Share a defining moment that shaped your creative path:
Jumping back into creating after a long break, and having the courage to just start. With that first painting I
produced after many years, I was so surprised that I actually really liked it! I found my groove really quickly and also found my "style" which I think I was lacking before. It happened really organically, so I believe that I got back into creating art at the right time in my life creatively. This gave me the courage and confidence in myself as an artist and I felt like I could really do this as my job. I had a lot more believe in myself.
How do you get out of a artistic rut?
Sometimes when I am finding an artwork a real struggle, I know that I need to take a break and step away for a while. Just having a little break can be all that I need, and when I get back working on that piece it can be a lot easier to refocus.
What are your favourite design tools and/or mediums?
When I am painting I love to use acrylic paints or alcohol inks, using brushes, scrapers, a water spray bottle. I love to experiment with new techniques and mediums. For designing repeat patterns I use a fine line or sharpie to draw and brainstorm ideas.
